Set Receiver and Antenna Height in RoverCore

Start here, step 2 of 5 · All RoverCore guides

Get the antenna height wrong and every elevation you collect or stake is off by the same amount. RoverCore keeps it simple: pick your brand and model, tape from the mark to the bottom of the receiver, and the app adds the offset. You set it once for the whole app, not per project.

What you'll need

  • Your receiver connected and linked (Connect your GNSS receiver)

  • A tape, or a pole you know the height of

  • The brand and model of your receiver

  • For models with no published offset: the antenna calibration sheet

The one rule

Tape from the ground mark up to the bottom of the receiver. That point is the ARP (antenna reference point).

The phase-centre offset for your model fills in when you pick it. Never add that offset to your tape reading. RoverCore adds it for you.

Step 1: Open the height screen

From Home, or go to Settings → Set Receiver and Antenna Height.

Step 2: Pick Brand and Model

Pick your receiver's Brand, then its Model. The phase-centre offset for that model fills in on its own. RoverCore takes offsets from NGS antenna calibrations where available, and from the manufacturer otherwise.

No published offset for your model? RoverCore asks you to type the ARP-to-L1 value from the calibration sheet under Phase-centre offset. Don't guess.

Step 3: Enter the tape reading

Enter your measurement from the mark to the bottom of the receiver. Just the tape number. The field is in international feet.

Step 4: Leave reduce to ground on

Leave reduce to ground on when you want stored heights at the mark, which is the normal case.

Step 5: Turn off the receiver's own height and tilt

If your receiver can apply its own pole height or tilt compensation, turn both off in the receiver or its vendor app before you connect.

Here's why. RoverCore subtracts your tape height plus the model offset. If the receiver subtracts them too, every elevation comes out low by that amount twice. Your brand guide shows where the setting is.

Step 6: Check it on a known point

Before you start the job, shoot a benchmark or control point with a known elevation. If you're off by about the pole height or the offset, go back over Steps 2 to 5.

Tips

  • It's one setting for the whole app. Changing projects doesn't change it. A new pole, an extension or a different receiver does, so set it again when your setup changes.

  • Metric tape? The field takes international feet. Convert first: metres ÷ 0.3048 = feet.

  • Pick the right model. The offset comes from the model you choose. Wrong model, wrong offset.

FAQ

Can I just enter the pole height? Yes, if the pole height runs from the mark to the bottom of the receiver. That's the number RoverCore wants.

Do I add the phase-centre offset? No. Picking the model fills it in. Typing it into the tape reading counts it twice.

My elevations are low by a steady amount. Why? Check whether the receiver or its app is also applying pole height or tilt. If it is, height gets taken off twice. Turn it off on the receiver.
