Connect NTRIP Corrections from Your Phone

Start here, step 4 of 5 · All RoverCore guides

To get RTK Fixed, your rover needs corrections. RoverCore can pull them from an NTRIP caster on your phone's connection and send them to the receiver over the same link it uses for position. This guide sets that up.

RoverCore doesn't sell corrections. You use your own caster: a state network, CORS or a local base.

The one rule: one corrections source

Use either RoverCore NTRIP with RTCM forward on, or corrections on the receiver or its vendor app. Never both.

If your receiver or its vendor app already runs NTRIP, skip this guide and leave RTCM forward off.

What you'll need

  • Your receiver linked on Connect (Connect your GNSS receiver)

  • The receiver in rover mode and set to accept RTCM from the controller / phone (see your brand guide)

  • A network connection on the phone

  • Your caster's address, port, user and password

Create the profile

  1. Link the receiver on Connect first, so the app has a live position to send.

  2. On the Connect tab, tap NTRIP profile and add a profile.

  3. Enter the caster's address in Host (required) and the Port (usually 2101). Add the User and password from the network.

  4. Once the address and port are in, the mountpoint dropdown fills in by itself. There's no button to press.

  5. Pick your mountpoint from the dropdown. If the network lists an MSM4 or MSM5 mountpoint, pick that one.

  6. Leave Send receiver's position to the provider on. VRS and nearest-base mountpoints need that position (GGA). Turn it off only for a single fixed base that doesn't ask for a position.

Start corrections

  1. Connect the profile.

  2. Turn RTCM forward on. Corrections now go to the receiver on the same link.

  3. Watch the HUD. Expect RTK Float, then RTK Fixed. On Home, the corrections line shows the app as the source while NTRIP is connected.

If it will not fix

  • Check the vendor app isn't also logged into NTRIP.

  • Mountpoint dropdown empty? Check the address and port in the profile.

  • Check the mountpoint, and that the position (GGA) is being sent for VRS or nearest-base mountpoints.

  • Check the receiver's data link. It should be set to controller / Bluetooth / phone internet, not its own cell modem, when the phone is the source.

  • Receiver link dropped? If the receiver link dies, the stream stops after a few minutes. Link the receiver again on Connect, then start NTRIP again.

Tips

  • Back up your profiles. You can export and import NTRIP profiles from the NTRIP profile screen on Connect. The backup asks for a passphrase. That file is for moving profiles between your own phones, not a survey deliverable.

  • Stuck at RTK Float? Give it time, then run through the list above.

FAQ

Does RoverCore provide corrections? No. You bring your own caster: a state network, CORS or a local base.

My receiver has its own modem. Do I need this? No. Use the receiver's corrections and leave RTCM forward off. Just don't run both.

What port do I use? Whatever your network gives you. It's usually 2101.
