Bad Elf Flex Setup for RoverCore

Receiver setup by brand · All RoverCore guides

The steps below are for Android and follow standard NMEA over Bluetooth. Check on a known point before you rely on it.

On iPhone: RoverCore connects over Wi-Fi (TCP), not Bluetooth. The receiver needs NMEA output over Wi-Fi TCP. Check the receiver's manual or vendor app to see if your model offers it, and to get its IP address and TCP port. Some Bluetooth-only receivers can't connect to an iPhone. If yours can, turn on the same NMEA messages on that output and follow the iPhone steps in the connect guide.

Models: Flex, and Flex with the pole adapter.

The Flex allows more than one connection, so the Bad Elf app can stay open for status. That makes the corrections and height settings the main thing to get right.

What you'll need

  • The Flex charged and on

  • The Bad Elf Flex app

  • RoverCore on your phone

Steps

  1. Pair "Flex-XXXX". On Android, pair it in Bluetooth settings first.

  2. NMEA: the default is fine. Turn on GST in the Flex app if it's offered. Without it, accuracy in RoverCore is an estimate from HDOP.

  3. Pick one corrections source:

- The Flex app runs NTRIP, and RoverCore RTCM forward stays off, or - The Flex app's saved NTRIP is off, and RoverCore NTRIP with RTCM forward is the only source.

  1. Zero the height. In the Flex app, set antenna height / pole offset to 0.

  2. Turn off Ortho Everywhere (and any "orthometric NMEA for other apps"). GGA must stay ellipsoidal. RoverCore applies the geoid.

  3. Link it in RoverCore on Connect (connect guide).

Antenna height

Tape to the bottom of the unit, or to the bottom of the adapter if you use one. Pick your setup in RoverCore (antenna height guide).

FAQ

Can the Bad Elf app stay open? Yes. The Flex allows more than one connection. Just make sure only one app is sending corrections.

Why turn off Ortho Everywhere? RoverCore applies the geoid itself, so GGA from the Flex has to stay ellipsoidal.
