SparkFun RTK Setup for RoverCore

Receiver setup by brand · All RoverCore guides

The steps below are for Android and follow standard NMEA over Bluetooth. Check on a known point before you rely on it.

On iPhone: RoverCore connects over Wi-Fi (TCP), not Bluetooth. The receiver needs NMEA output over Wi-Fi TCP. Check the receiver's manual or vendor app to see if your model offers it, and to get its IP address and TCP port. Some Bluetooth-only receivers can't connect to an iPhone. If yours can, turn on the same NMEA messages on that output and follow the iPhone steps in the connect guide.

Models: Facet, Facet L-Band, Torch, Postcard.

SparkFun units stream NMEA over Classic SPP by default and take RTCM on Bluetooth with no extra setting. Setup is mostly making sure nothing was changed.

What you'll need

  • The unit charged and on

  • The unit's Wi-Fi web config, only if settings were changed

  • RoverCore on your phone

Steps

  1. Put the unit in Rover mode. Bluetooth defaults to Classic SPP and streams NMEA.

  2. Pair it. On Android, pair it in Bluetooth settings first. It shows up as "Facet Rover-…", "Facet L-Band Rover-…", "Torch Rover-…" or "Postcard Rover-…".

  3. If messages were changed, open the Wi-Fi web config → Messages and restore the defaults, or turn on GGA, GST, GSA and GSV.

  4. If Bluetooth was set to BLE or "SPP + BLE", set it back to SPP.

  5. Leave the unit's own Wi-Fi NTRIP client off while RoverCore forwards RTCM.

  6. Link it in RoverCore on Connect (connect guide).

Torch: tilt off

In the web config, go to Tilt and leave tilt disabled. Set antenna height to 0 if the firmware asks. With tilt on, the Torch sends the pole tip position and RoverCore would take the height off again.

Antenna height

Tape to the bottom of the receiver (on the Facet, the bottom of its mount) and pick your model in RoverCore (antenna height guide).

ModelOffsetTorch131.7 mmFacet71.8 mm (bottom of the 1/4″ or 5/8″ mount)Facet L-Band, PostcardType the ARP-to-phase-centre offset from SparkFun's guide or the antenna calibration sheet. There's no single NGS value for these.

Tips

  • One corrections source. Unit's Wi-Fi NTRIP, or RoverCore NTRIP with RTCM forward. Not both.
